Most problems with Smart Mode installation protection come from battery optimization techniques. On many of the problematic devices though, Smart Mode can be switched on and successfully used for quite a while before it gets broken by the OS. This time span can be used to install updates safely.

Go to Andoffs settings and enable the Auto-Revert feature and Advanced Mode if not already enabled. Then go back to the main screen and scroll down to the Installation Protection feature. Switch it to “Smart” and set an auto revert duration of something like 20 minutes. The duration should be long enough for all updates to install, but short enough that smart mode does not become canceled by the OS. Once the changes are applied, update all your apps. You can manually go back to slid mode afterwards if you like, but you can also wait until the Auto-Reversion feature does that for you.
